Hiring a Senior Director of EMEA Marketing to support Sodali & Co’s ambitious growth plans

The challenge

Sodali & Co is a global consultancy firm that helps companies manage relationships with shareholders, stakeholders and investors – with over 2000 clients across 70 regions.

The firm was looking to hire a Senior Director of EMEA Marketing based in London who would act as the marketing point of contact for the EMEA region. The role was to report into a Global Head of Marketing based in New York.

The hire was particularly critical for Sodali at this time as the firm had recently made several acquisitions and needed to reach its ambitious growth plans whilst integrating these businesses.

The Senior Director of EMEA Marketing would work closely with senior stakeholders to develop, implement and build the EMEA marketing and communications strategy. They therefore needed a strong professional services background and wealth of experience in this sector group.

The solution

Sodali & Co approached us to help fill the role due to the firm’s existing relationship with us and our sister brand, Frazer Jones, which recruits HR professionals.

After meeting with the Chief People Officer and Global Head of Marketing for a detailed recruitment brief, it became apparent how exciting this opportunity was for a senior marketing professional. It provided a blank canvas to really put their mark on the EMEA business.

These key stakeholders in the firm described the essentials they needed in a candidate and highlighted the reporting line into the Global Head of Marketing as a key selling point.

As the role would be based in London, we were able to use our local recruitment expertise to advise on the UK’s current job market, salary expectations, the channels we use to source candidates and the timeframes they could expect.

The outcome

We went to market looking for a very specific candidate with a good understanding of the consultancy and financial services worlds.

Just shy of 900 candidates applied through job boards (including Carter Murray’s own) and we targeted over 35 potential candidates through headhunting, previous contacts and referrals.

To give Sodali our full recruitment support we:

  1. Spoke to a selection of these professionals to ensure they met Sodali’s requirements
  2. Sent Sodali a shortlist of five strong candidates
  3. Organised initial interviews with the preferred candidates and the Global Head of Marketing, which included four stages and various other stakeholders
  4. Helped Sodali to narrow the shortlist down to two candidates
  5. Supported Sodali and the final candidate throughout the offer and acceptance stages

The candidate soon accepted and hit the ground running. They continue to be incredibly happy in their role, helping the business achieve its EMEA business objectives through its marketing and communications strategy.
